How to Repair a Leak in Your Kitchen Drain
Dude, I maybe have 2-1/2 " to tie into old basement toilet drain?(3-1/2") hole before it hooks off down and to the right.is that enough to tie into. It's not a straight drop it's like an elbow piece that the old closest flange is attached to. I know I'm horrible at descriptions but was wondering if what you're showing is something I use to install new toilet. Old closet flange is about an inch below the current tile floor. Thank you in advance for any answers. You're awesome!
Great information. But like others, my problem is a little different. I have a Delta KITCHEN faucet with two handles. No idea if it has cartridges (I can hear y'all laughing), but it definitely doesn't have a set screw. It's leaking around the base and the hot water handle for sure. I'm a novice, so I need to have a decent idea of what to do before I jump into this. HELP! We need a video ASAP!
Thank you, I had it working before the video finished. My issue was solved with the reset button.
I have a Delta 2 Handle faucet with no little set screw. I have checked thoroughly. It looks a lot like the faucet in your video except the 'tower" base of the faucet is stationary and there's a seam at the top where the handles move. I am perplexed! Any ideas? I'm leery of applying force until I understand. 😀
Sometimes, there's a cap that'll expose a screw. There are also models that you hold the handle stationary while unscrewing the escutcheon (trim ring) underneath it. Don't give up, you've got this!
Thanks for the video. It helped me fixing a sink stopper that was not 'out' enough.

TEDDY!
Alright, i think im ready... I got a six pack, some cigarettes, a wrench and a radio.. What do I do again?? 🥴
Do I need to change the cartridge if I can’t turn off the water or do I just need a need handle??
If you can't stop the water from flowing out of the spout, you most likely need the cartridge associated for the temperature of water flowing out. If the water is cold, you need the cold side cartridge, etc. Best of luck!
Why are you slip coupler. Couldn't you move uprights enough to fit regular coupler?
You often can, yes, but moving the ends that way risks damage to the pipes. Lots to consider.
Water hammer arrestors not required?
While always a good idea, if you're replacing an existing mixing valve, you may not be looking to try to add them. They're simple enough, but would add a lot of complexity to this job. I always add them, though, if it's plumbed in copper or CPVC. If is plumbed in PEX, I skip them as they're unnecessary due to the PEX ability to absorb water hammer.
Why change it? Why not just replace the cartridge ?
That's definitely the cost-effective way to go, but sometimes folks want a fresh look they can't get with the current mixing valve. Also, occasionally, a bad cartridge will m pretty much weld itself in there.
Thank you so much. I' m going to follow you step by step. Wonderful video!
I'm going to be doing this under a 120 gallon aquarium. Perfect video. Thank you!
Great Video Thank You!
Do you have a link to the floor jacks?
The one used in the video was from Tiger. They're available just about everywhere, but you'll need to search your local supplier's website to be sure. Best of luck with your project!
Thank you.
Perfect work 👌
My main shut off ball valve is inside the wall with a little door to access it. Once I cut away the sheet rock to install and adjust one of these PRV's can I then sheet rock over it, or does it also need an access door?
Code requires accessibility. You can purchase an access panel from your local big box store and use it to determine the size of your hole. They can be painted to match the wall. I prefer the spring loaded versions but the versions with a frame and snap in panel work fine, as well. Best of luck on your project!
PARDON ME YOU'VE got it wrong..its not sorder..its pronounced. SOLDER. 👌 OK THANKS O.K. USED FOR. SOLDERING COOPER PIPES ARE. I THINK 🤔 YOU NEED TO USE U.KINGDOM LINGO ie what we're working with all over the world except the U.S ...thanks again just remember to use English language O.k
Do you use pipe dope on a compression fitting?
Nope.
Just what I needed. Thank you!
I need a better system, mine keeps dislodging, what do you recommend?
That usually comes from the individual pipes being cut a little too short. Or missing gasket rings.
Is this the same thing as a water pressure reducing "valve"
Yes, that's how it commonly gets implemented.
I'd always had leak proof, great success applying flux on the male ends of the pipes ..no need to flux both ends..and basic blue can propane is just fine for residential water lines .. seems like you're making a simple job much to involved.
Agree to disagree. I can solder three fittings with Map pro in the same time it takes to do one with propane (the blue can). Higher heat means getting to solder temp faster. That being said, there's nothing wrong with using propane instead of Map pro. As a matter of fact, I think I recommended it for beginners. Also, best practice is to apply flux to both parts. The extra 2 seconds it takes is great insurance against a poor joint. No shortcuts means higher quality work. Take care!
Good point..
@@Teach2Build when using MAPP I've heard to turn it down so it's not so very hot.... what is your opinion? Wouldn't that sorta defeat the purpose of quick heating and reduce the flame temp to the level of propane? Or am I overthinking this?
It can certainly overheat both the copper and surrounding areas. Most flame shields can't even handle it full blast! It's important to develop a feel for it, but I control the temp by constantly regulating the distance from the joint to the blue part of the flame, and I treat it constantly by holding the flame away and lightly touching the solder to the joint (once the flux has bubbled). I only continue to hold the solder there (while holding the flame away) once it's getting sucked into the joint. It's similar to propane but with less forgiveness. An overheated joint can be a problem, as can burning a house down, so caution is king.
Doesn't your new fangled pipe cutter have a built in reamer???? For all that it costs, you'd think it should... shouldn't have to use one tool to cut and then pick up another one to deburr... Waste of time, waste of money...Stick with the simple tool dude...
The older style copper cutters have a flip-out internal reamer, but they're terrible, and quickly get hard to pull open due to corrosion so I've always used a separate one, as have every plumber over ever known. Nowadays, we're all using spring-loaded cutters that don't have an internal reamer regardless.
@@Teach2Build do the cutting wheels last any longer on the new fangled one? It seems they don't last very long on the small cutters I use..
It depends on the tool. My experience has been that you get what you pay for. I bought a cheaper one from a big box store and it was TERRIBLE. Bought a different one from a plumbing supply house and it's made many, many cuts and still cuts quick and clean.
Wouldn’t it be easier just to unhook the inlet water line with the valve at the bottom open?
Any step taken to allow air in will help, yes.
This guy can talk me through the end of the world
Ha! Let's hope not...
@@Teach2Build bro this guy is hilarious, low key tho. Man’s a mastermind at talking at people 😂
@@Teach2Build oh my god it’s you 🤣😂 whaat this is the funniest thing I’ve ever watched in my life
I am definitely confident enough to tackle this job after watching this video demonstration. Will save me thousands of dollars!
Great video but I have a different problem with mine, it works well but wont turn off, the only way to turn it on and off is by pulling the power plug or by plugging it back in. What could be the problem?
how do you troubleshoot or diagnose if I have a faucet on and then flush the toilet I lose all water pressure and flow. do I need to adjust or the PRV, or should I replace it? my home is 3 years old.
3 years is pretty young for a prv to go out. I would screw a pressure guage onto a hose spigot and see if it's low. If it is, double check to make sure your main valve is all the way open, then check the adjustments on the prv. If this has always been the way it is, it could also be related to the supply line plumbing in the wall. Best of luck!
@Teach2Build this has been ongoing for the last two years and progressively getting worse. I will definitely test the pressure and adjust as needed. I will keep you posted. Thank you sir. 🤙🍻
Should I lube the seats?
Absolutely outstanding tutorial. Best I've seen on RUclips. Thanks friend!!
I appreciate the kind words!
So 1 floor jack is good enough for this support beam? How long should a support be before you add a 2nd floor jack? Thank you for the instructional video
Usually, I'll add an additional jack for every two or three floor joists.
solution: I used an Allen wrench (used b4 ) but for some reason it’s stuck and I cant get it out? Help!!
how do I know what teespring size I need as I do not know the model of the Delta kitchen Gooseneck faucet, but It does have two handles
Oooo. That's a good question. I might start by calling Delta customer service. They're great.
How come they never show how to support with ANGLED new supports in angled roof parts that people ACTUALLY don't know how to do?This isn't rocket science and similar repairs are all over RUclips.
Hey Dorothy! This video has a narrower focus. I'll add your recommendation to the list of future videos. Thanks!
Knobs not handles
My handles are really hard to turn any reason why?
It's possible that corrosion has created resistance inside the valve sleeve. Once disassembled, make sure all of the components that interact are clean, corrosion-free, and use some plumbers grease upon reassembly. Best of luck!
Thank you well explained, and you transmit a sense of honesty.
Thanks for the kind words!
CPVC is brittle garbage. I've had 2 failures THIS YEAR alonge. The only thing you need to know is how to put a PEX-A adapter on the shit.
You make it look so easy getting the seat back in. I cannot get it (if it is supposed to be depressed down into where the spring is)
The spring goes in first, then set the rubber seal on top of that, so that the seal rides against the handle/ball. Best of luck with your repair!
Thanks for the reply but does the seat recess down into where the spring is (so it looks the same as when I took the old one out)@@Teach2Build
On the other sink there a big cyclinder i have a smalker 1 on a dink sink smaller white pvc 1
Thank you , very clear demonstration
Which way does spring go back in? I know but do millions others?
Big end down (they're slightly tapered)
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Nicely done !
Mine hummms fir a few seconds then the button trips what's wrong?
MODE BADGER 100-1
I'm puzzled. The replacement doesn't appear complicated, so why is it then that plumbers in my area are giving me estimates of $700 to $1000 just to replace the tank (which looks like a 3-4 hr job)? Note: I already have the new tank and associated lines, expansion tank, etc., so their estimate is for labor only.
The cost of doing business, depending on many local factors. For many plumbing companies, it's necessary to gross around $1800 per day per plumber.
Very well covered and filmed. Needed a review and watched several, this is the best ...former apprentice plumber with cognitive memory issues. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the kind words. Best of luck on your projects!
Looking down my main drain line i can see the tail of the disposal outlet. It reduces the pipe diameter in half. I assume this is wrong and causing problems, but can't find anything about it. Do you know how i would find a building code about it?
